MEDICINE KUZHAMBHU


                                                 Kuzhambhu for cold/fever
             
         It has been raining here almost everyday for the past few weeks and my son gave an inauguration for cold and fever followed by my husband and then me :)...I mostly prefer home based remedies for cold and fever...and mostly for cold milagu kuzhambhu is prepared , but i also add some of the other things like sukku, seeragam etc as it helps in fever and enhances digestion.....


INGREDIENTS
Onion-1 small
tomato-1 small
garlic-6 pods
tamarind- half a lemon size
chilli powder-1/2 teaspoon
coriander powder-1  teaspoon
turmeric powder-1 teaspoon
salt- to taste
gingelly oil-3 tablespoon

For seasoning
mustard seeds-1 teaspoon
urud dal-1 teaspoon
fenugreek seeds-1 teaspoon
curry leaves-few
dry red chilli-1

masala paste
Pepper-3 tablespoon
sukku(dry ginger)-2 teaspoon(powdered)
ginger-4 small pieces
curry leaves-1 handful
jeera-2 teaspoons
onion- 1 small
garlic-4 pods



PREPARATION
STEP1
 Dry roast the pepper until you get a aroma and warm it.In a mixer grinder first grind the pepper seperately once its done grind it together with rest of ingredients for masala...in to smooth paste .keep aside.

STEP2

Soak the tamarind in water about 15 minutes then extract the juice from it 3-4 times adding about small glass of water each time.Now the tamarind juice extract should be about three cups.now add chilli powder, coriander powder,turmeric powder and salt to tamarind water.keep this aside

Step3
Pour oil in a pan add items given for seasoning.let it splutter.Now add chopped onions,cook well.once its done add chopped tomatoes add little salt so that it smashes well and binds with onion together. Add garlic pods and saute well.Now add the tamarind water referred in step2.Allow it to boil in high flame for 2 minutes once it starts boiling , keep in low flame closing the pan about 10 minutes  until raw flavour of gravy vanishes, and gravy thickens a little .Now add masala paste grinded and keep in low flame for 5 minutes and then swich off the stove..


          kuzhambhu for cold/fever is ready...pepper,garlic is good for cold...dry ginger helps in fever/headache.jeera for digestion,curry leaves is good for stomach(mandham in tamil )....so in total very good remedy....
