POTATO SAAGU(URULAIKIZHANGU SAAGU)

                                    

                   An ideal side dish for rotis,idli and dosas.....I generally do it if got bored of regular sidedishes.Prepare it a little spicy for exellent taste.....

INGREDIENTS
Onion-2 medium
potato- 1/4 kg
TOMATO-1 medium
salt-to taste
chilli powder-2 to 3 teaspoon
coriander powder-1 teaspoon
turmeric powder-1/4 teaspoon
Oil- 3 tablespoon

for seasoning
fennel seeds or fennel powder- 1/2 teaspoon
crushed ginger garlic-2 teaspoons






Step1
Add 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan.After it gets heated add the chopped onions and saute it until the raw smell vanishes.now add the chopped tomato and saute it until the raw smell vanishes. Remove it from the pan and keep aside to cool and then grind to coarse paste seperately.
Boil the potatoes well , peel off the skin and mash in to small pieces.

Step2
   pour oil in a pan, add items in seasoning let it splutter.Now add  onion-tomato paste in step1 cook well.once its done add boiled potatoes and saute well.now add turmeric powder, salt , chilli,coriander powder and enough water and allow it to boil well about 5 minutes in medium flame.Now saagu is ready.

TIPS
   Make sure you boil the potatoes very well, like it  should melt in the mouth immediately.An easy method to check is in the boiled potatoes you can see it will be breaked in between.
  Thiois gravy will be very tasty if its little hot.If u need hot add 3 teaspoons of chilli powder or else 2 teaspoons will do.Check for taste and adjust accordingly.
